Spring Clean Skin

Spring has sprung! The spring season is coming to an end with summer approaching in a few weeks. If you haven’t already, it’s time to spring clean your skin and get it ready for the hot weather to come.

As with any climate change, our skin experiences the same changes. In the first part of spring everything around us is trying to shake off that winter cold. The trees begin adjusting and we notice their leaves turn from burnt orange and mustard to its typical wintergreen and olive shades. The nonexistent flowers begin to sprout and breathe life. The same principles apply to our skin. During the winter, our skin tends to be on the drier side. In the spring and summer, our skin is more prone to sunburn and even irritation from sweating (i.e. chafing, etc.).

We should always be aware of the products and routines we are using during seasonal changes. If you didn’t take heed to the Fall Skin Tips advice, definitely take notes!

clean out your stash

First things first, toss out all of those products that have started to collect dust. Although the standard shelf life of cosmetic products is typically 1 year; if you haven’t used it in 6 months, chances are you will never use it. Plus, why not make room for new goodies?

Sunscreen, please!

Even though you should be using sunscreen year around (side-eye to those who aren’t), using sunscreen during warmer months is absolutely important. The sun’s potentially deadly rays are stronger during this time and there is an increase of sunburn. Make sure to reapply as directed!

Exfoliate

If you weren’t on top of your exfoliation during the fall and winter months, now is definitely the time to remove that dead skin and clear those pores. We recommend gentler exfoliation with lactic and glycolic acids rather than physical scrubs (with seeds especially), which can be harsh and over exfoliating.

Dry brushing is an excellent way to exfoliate the body while improving blood circulation and aiding in detoxification.

lighter moisturizer

Put the heavy duty moisturizers aside for a light cream gel or moisturizer. Since the skin isn’t as dry in warmer months, the extra emollients for facial products aren’t necessary.

Gel creams provide a light weight wear with enough moisture properties to last throughout the day. This is especially good for oilier skin types.
